Green Mango Masoor dal is simple yet delicious preparation of red lentils with raw mango which adds tangy flavor to the dish. Raw mango is highly rich in vitamin c besides pectic, acids like citric and succinic. Raw mangoes have more nutritional value than ripen one.
This wonderful dish is a great accompaniment to plain rice and is a quick dinner or lunch. The tanginess of green mango combined with sweetness of coconut makes it a irresistable dish.
One of my keralite colleague taught me this dish and told to add drumsticks which were not available so i replaced it with potato. Drumsticks would definately taste yum and is a healthy option. I will add it next time for sure.
1 cup masoor dal (presoaked for half an hour)
1/2 big raw mango chopped in small chunks
1 small potato chopped or few drumsticks
Haldi big pinch
Red chilly powder
Give 3 Whistle the above ingredients with 3 cup water on medium flame. Let it cool.
Grind 1/4 fresh coconut with little water and mix it in dal.
In a pan heat oil. When hot add rai 1 tsp, red chilly sabut, kari patta. Let it splutter. Switch off. Add the tadka over dal.
Serve hot with plain rice.
